Two tips for business owners who want to have their premises repainted

If you are planning to hire one of your local painters to repaint your business premises, here are a couple of tips that you might find helpful.

Test out lots of paint samples before contacting the painters

Before you contact a painter, you should purchase a selection of paint samples and test all of them out on the walls that you want to paint.

The reason for this is as follows; if you choose the first paint colour you come across without testing out any samples beforehand, there is a chance that you may end up disliking the way it looks after it has been applied to the entire room by your chosen painter.

This could be a very expensive mistake to rectify. In this situation, you would not only have to spend time and money selecting and buying tins of paint in a different colour, but you would also have to pay the painter to come back and paint your premises a second time.

In addition to being costly, this process could also disrupt your business operations and in doing so, significantly reduce your enterprise's profitability.

As such, it's sensible to purchase at least four or five sample pots of paint in a variety of colours. Apply them all to the walls of the room that you want to have painted and wait for them to dry completely before deciding which ones you like best (as, sometimes, a paint colour that looks quite vibrant when first applied can end up looking far more muted when it dries).

Make sure to examine the paint colours in both artificial and natural light (as some shades can look very different under, for example, fluorescent lighting than they do in sunlight) and to factor in things such as the colour of the floors and your enterprise's brand colours, when making your decision.

Whilst this might seem like a laborious process, it could spare you a lot of expense and stress in the long run, by ensuring that you choose the perfect shade of paint for your particular premises.

Wait at least a few days to re-open your business

You might be planning to re-open your business the moment the painter has finished painting your premises. However, whilst this is understandable, it is best to wait a couple of days after the painter has left before opening your doors to customers again.

The reason for this is as follows; the pungent fumes from the paint will linger for a few days after it has been applied. If you allow both your employees and customers to enter your premises during this period, there is a chance that some of them may be affected by these fumes.

For example, people who suffer from asthma often find that their symptoms are exacerbated by paint fumes. If one of your customers experiences an asthma attack whilst on your premises because of the fumes from the freshly-applied paint, they may file a complaint or leave a negative review about your business online. This could have a long-term impact on the profitability of your enterprise.

As such, it is best to simply allow the paint to fully dry and the fumes to completely dissipate before you re-open your business.
